Buckskin Hide Tanning Workshop

Let’s gather with friends to learn the ancient art of brain tanning. Honor the life of a deer by turning their skin- which a hunter discarded as trash, into a beautiful, durable piece of leather. This is a two day skill-sharing session. My hope is that we will build community while creating beauty. We’ll work together to tan our hides, and you’ll get your own to take home with you. Due to limits on everyone’s time and money, this is a very fast paced tanning session. This course is a pay-what-you-can. I made the decision to make this pay what you can because I am still learning, and I know many of us are broke. When I looked online, most courses are between $400-700 which I feel is inaccessible to most of us. I wanted this to be an opportunity for us to learn together. The minimum cost covers the tools and materials. If you can afford to and would like to contribute more to help cover my personal costs and time that went into building the beams and sourcing materials, that would be greatly appreciated. $20 covers the hide. You’ll need to bring your own blade. This is perfect for anyone who wants to do more of this in the future. $60 covers the hide and fleshing blade. Please let me know ASAP via Instagram if you need me to provide a blade. I am making fleshing beams from salvaged materials so I don’t plan for their to be any additional cost for providing them. Anything above and beyond the listed costs above just helps reimburse me for the time I’m spending prepping for this. I will send an email or text message with my address in Raleigh a few days prior to the event. Schedule: Saturday: 9am-4pm Sunday: 9am until hides are finished
