Pack Like a Guide- a 10 Essentials Hike
- KNOWLEDGE - PLANNING- AWARENESS -

March 13 4pm-7:30pm Lake Raleigh $25
Prepared, not over packed
Join us for a laid-back hike where you'll learn the gear framework that actually makes sense. The 10 Essentials system teaches you to think in categories instead of checklists, so you can adapt what you carry for any environment or activity. No more blindly copying someone else's checklist and hoping its right for you. Walk at a comfortable pace, ask all your questions, and you'll leave knowing exactly how to prepare for your next trip into the wild.
What You'll Learn
The 10 essentials help us plan and organize gear we take into the backcountry to keep us self-sufficient in the wild. This framework of categories based on function make it easy to alter the contents to fit the environments we head into and activities we enjoy without forgetting critical equipment, or bringing an item not well suited for what we’re doing and where we’re going. Using a category framework provides for an endlessly adaptable and yet still comprehensive.

On this hike we'll cover when to choose efficiency and when to choose redundancy, and what choosing the right gear for each category looks like in different environments and for different activities- plus tips on how to carry it.

About your Instructor
Ali has led expeditions on three continents since 2009 doing all sorts of things from sea kayaking to horse packing- and even camel trekking! She spends 3-6 months a year leading wilderness expeditions where often there are no trails, from the mountains of Oman to the forests of North Carolina. She has guided groups through unmarked desert, across open water, and through dense forest using the same fundamental frameworks she'll teach you.
Why Choose Us?
Our mission is simple: get more people confidently adventuring in the wild. Knowledge and skills are critical to doing that successfully, so we made it accessible by keeping costs down and class sizes small—all while supporting our local nature conservancies and our instructors.

We donate 15-20% of revenue to Triangle Land Conservancy from classes that take place there. Our pay structure is inverse of most outdoor companies so that our instructors receive the highest possible pay. Read more about our business model here.
