Uwharrie Hills Ranger

Uwharrie National Forest
$475

You've got a wild self buried under all the civilization—one who knows how to thrive in mountains, to howl with the moon and coax an ember into roaring flame. Ready to unleash them?

The Uwharries are older than the Appalachians—ancient peaks worn smooth by half a billion years, dense forests that feel different than younger ranges, hollows where cryptids are rumored to wander.

We'll traverse these old ridges together while cooking over open fires and sleeping beneath tarp shelters we construct each night. You'll learn how to find tinder in the wild, all the knots to rig a stormproof shelter, and perfect the art of cooking over fire.

Through the Storm: Wilderness Skills for a disrupted world

December 11-13 2026
Triangle, NC
$300

When disaster hits—whether it's a hurricane, flood, wildfire, or blizzard—the world you know can change overnight. Roads wash away, trails disappear, power goes down, water becomes unsafe, and the cell service you depend on can vanish. When the infrastructure fails, knowing what to do matters more than what you own.

For three days, you'll learn what actually matters: how to navigate through landscape when the roads and trails are gone, find and purify water when the taps aren't safe, cook and keep food when the power grid goes down, build shelter and manage heat with limited resources, and adapt when the plan you started with no longer works.

This isn't about preparing for the apocalypse. It's about being useful when your community is having a really bad day. You'll learn skills that can help you get yourself—or someone else—to safety, keep people warm, fed and hydrated, and help your neighbors until professional responders can get there.

Tarps + Shelters Masterclass

Williamson Preserve
$150

A tarp and a few good knots can be the difference between a miserable night and a genuinely stormproof camp. This 5 hour masterclass teaches you to build shelter that actually holds — whether you're working with a lightweight tarp, a family-size canopy, or nothing but what the forest gave you.

Whether you're a backpacker chasing a lighter, more versatile setup, a car camper who wants real living space when the rain rolls in, or someone who wants to walk into the woods and build something from scratch — this class meets you where you are and levels you up.

You'll learn the knots, hitches, and lashings that take a shelter from "it'll do" to stormproof. We'll cover adaptations for tricky terrain — sand, snow, and everything in between — plus a deeper dive into natural shelter strategies so you leave with skills that work anywhere the wild takes you.
